Episodes 006-009 — Assets and control
Better photos, without a photo studio
A photo problem is usually filed as a presentation issue. It is also a returns issue, and returns got more expensive.
Most sellers do not think of their product photos as a compliance or cost line — they think of
them as presentation, nice to have if there is time. But a photo that under-represents condition, size or
fit is not just a weaker listing. It is the first link in a chain that ends in a return, and returns have
gotten more expensive to be wrong about.
The return you did not see coming
US: since 15 July 2025, free returns have been mandatory for US sellers of
new and new-other Motors parts and accessories over $10 in Fixed Price, across most categories, with no
opt-out. eBay subsidises 50% of return shipping — but only for a change-of-mind return. For
“doesn’t match the listing”, the seller pays 100%. Since September 2025, the negative
feedback that comes with a not-as-described claim is no longer auto-removed either. A buyer who can see
clearly what they are buying tends to buy correctly. A buyer left guessing from an unclear photo tends to
guess wrong, and now that guess costs the seller twice.
What Media Hosting actually does
Professional sellers most often lose the presentation decision for an ordinary reason: they photograph
in a warehouse, not a studio. Honest photos, unhelpful backgrounds — a workbench in shot, packaging
still visible, nothing wrong with the item and nothing flattering about the picture either. When you upload
in Media Hosting or the listing tool, it cleans the background to plain white for you, matching what
eBay’s own guidance generally recommends. eBay offers a background tool of its own too, so this is
not an exclusive capability — the useful part is doing it at catalogue scale without opening each
image individually. Video gets the same treatment automatically: processed and transcoded so it plays
smoothly without becoming a huge file, at a point where eBay’s own photo-to-video tool has been
paused since October 2025.
Next to it: Quick List
Photos, a title, and Quick List drafts the description — the same three inputs, turned into a
listing you check rather than one you build from a blank page. It is the fast route through the same
workflow the listing tool and Media Hosting cover in more depth, useful when the item is straightforward
and speed matters more than customisation.
What we are not claiming
Background cleanup is not something only Frooition offers — eBay has its own version, and this is
a both-have-it comparison, not an advantage claim. We are not quoting a mobile-traffic percentage we have
not measured ourselves. And there is no Google Shopping placement guarantee — clean images meet the
feed’s general expectations, which is a different claim from a placement promise.

I own the companies behind the tools named here, so weigh that accordingly. The problem is real whether or not you use them.
